Pre-Bankruptcy Guilt

Chain Link G (Silver Spring, MD)
Bankruptcy filers often feel guilty or ashamed that their debts have gotten to the point where they need to avail themselves of the bankruptcy laws. But, there is no need to feel ashamed or guilty. Over $1.5 million people filed bankruptcy in 2010 and the number is expected to be just as high in 2011. As layoffs, inflation and unemployment continues to increase more and more people are considering the bankruptcy option. Filing bankruptcy is a legal act and completely within your rights. Bankruptcy laws were created to benefit debtors, creditors and society as a whole. Even some of the most successful people in history have filed bankruptcy at least once. Bankruptcy no longer has the stigma attached to it that it had in the past. bk nowadays is often used as a financial planning tool to restore financial stability. It puts people (and corporations) in a position to move forward and become productive once again. Feeling guilty is normal but non-productive. The best thing to do is to put your past behind you and focus on the future. The past cannot be changed. Learn a lesson and keep moving ahead. The relief you will experience once the process is complete will most likely override any initial feelings of shame or guilt.
